INDVSNZ: India's tour of 'Kiwis' started with defeat, lost by 30 runs in Practice match
The start of the tour for New Zealand, which came to India for a limited overs series, was disappointing when he faced a 30-run defeat at the Brabourne Stadium on Tuesday in the first match of the 50-over match against Board President XI. Board President XI Youth Lokesh Rahul (68), out of Opener Prithvi Shaw (66) and out of the Indian team, added 295 runs for 9 wickets in the first wicket partnership of 147 runs. Karun Nayar, batting at number three, also played a brilliant innings of 78 runs.
Fast bowler Trent Bolt was the most successful bowler from New Zealand. He got five wickets with 38 runs. Mitchell Centner also took two wickets for 40 runs. In reply to the New Zealand team, Shahbaz Nadeem (three wickets for 41 runs) and Jaydev Unadkat (3 for 62) were bowled out for 265 in 47 overs.
Tom Latham top scored with 59 runs from New Zealand. Captain Ken Williamson scored 47 while Ross Taylor scored 34 runs. None of the New Zealand batsmen got a good start in the big innings, which was broken by the team.
New Zealand captain Williamson decided to bowl first before winning the toss, but Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul gave the team a good start. Both of them shared 147 runs in 25.1 overs and also completed their half-century during this period. Both of them, however, returned to the pavilion within four runs.
Nayar then played a brilliant innings, but he did not get enough support from the other end. Apart from the top three batsmen, none of the other batsmen reached the score of 20 runs so that the board chairman Ehsan, who reached 350 runs at a time, could not even score 300 runs.
In reply, New Zealand's team once looked in good conditions by making a 180-run lead on three wickets, thanks to a 73-run fourth-wicket partnership between Latham and Taylor, but after the two were dismissed, the team could not reach close to the target.
This match was not authorized and 11-11 players were allowed to bat and bowl on behalf of both the teams.
